I know, it’s kind of weird, and not the most convenient schedule, but it’s the best I could do with the classes I wanted to/could take. Mostly it’s just because three of my four classes require labs. Oh well.
Last night was so much fun. I went to Eisley’s with Kirby, Nina, her boyfriend Jordan and their friend Kyle, Melisa and her friends Destiny and Derek, AJ and his friend, and Allison. I had never really hung out with any of the other than AJ and Kirby, and I had never even met a bunch of them. We just hung out and got to know each other for a while and eventually me, Kirby, Allison, Nina, Jordan and Kyle decided to go to iHop. We got crappy service, as usual when I’ve gone with that many people, but it was a lot of fun. I haven’t hung out with a big group like that in a long time, so it was nice.
This update is really boring so away I go to read Entertainment Weekly.
Convincing Myself
September 13, 2007
I just ordered a 3/4-sleeve top, 4 pairs of undies, and a bra from American Eagle. I usually don’t shop there because it’s too expensive on my college kid budget, but I got all of the above for a mere $36 thanks to a combined 35% off and free shipping. I know I need to be saving my money, and I am! Right now I’m pretty much only buying things I really need (although the Philosophy Purity face wash is somewhat of an exception, but it’s supposed to be really good and besides I got a free sample of DiorShow mascara, which I’ve been wanting to try but not for the crazy price it retails at). Plus I’ve managed to save about $400 since I started at Prairie House, so there.
Besides, a good deal like that helps make up for the fact that my brand-new (albeit very cheap) printer does not print.
I have a reading test in US History tomorrow. First test of the semester, whoohoo. I think I’ll do pretty well on it since it only covers 4 essays, 3 of which I read thoroughly and one of which I tried to read thoroughly. At least it’s not over the notes, since I skipped that class – and Mass Comm – the last two times. I’ve been really bad about going to class this week. Monday I didn’t go at all, Tuesday I went to both my classes, Wednesday I only went to my astronomy class, and today I only went to my health psychology class. I also skipped and rescheduled a lab twice (it’s on the 27th now and I will not – CANNOT – reschedule it again). The first time was because I was late thanks to Zeus getting out of the house and today I blew it off to have dinner with Ellen, Chris, Megan, and Megan’s roommate. It was a lot of fun although I did feel a little guilty about skipping my lab for it. Next week I’m making a point not to miss any classes since skipping is not a habit I want to get into. Just gotta keep my mind focused on a 3.0 GPA.
Also, eight months today… RIP♥
Not To Mac
September 6, 2007
I’m skipping class today for the first time. Only a week in, isn’t that terrible? I just don’t feel very good today and I definitely don’t feel like sitting in a hard plastic chair being totally bored for two hours, when he already has the slides online. I’ll probably go to my second class though, if only because I like the people there.
My bag is supposed to get here today. I’m hoping it comes before I leave for class, which will be around 2:45, or after I get home at 5. I’m kind of a nerd when it comes to stuff like that. As soon as I get a new bag for school, or a purse, or wallet, or anything like that, I always sit down immediately and put all my stuff in it and get it arranged how I like it. Isn’t that dorky?
My Dad talked me out of buying a Mac… He pointed out that if all I’m going to use it for is school, why spend $400-500 more for a Mac when a Windows XP notebook will do the same thing [almost] as well? And yet Mac is still better, no matter how you look at it…*sigh* If only I was rich. Then I could just buy a Mac and that would be that.
Sister: “Do you have $4 in ones?”
Me: “No, I went to the bank today so I don’t have any cash on me.”
Sister: “You know, most people say that the other way… They went to the bank, so they DO have cash.”
Me: “Most people don’t wait tables.”
To Mac or Not To Mac?
September 2, 2007
I think I’m going to get a Mac laptop for school. I know they’re a lot more expensive than a Windows laptop, but I really don’t want Vista, and besides that it would be nice to have both a Mac and a PC. I think what I’m going to do is save about $400, buy a Mac on credit, pay the $400 as my first payment, and then pay the remaining $600 in a year. That would be $50/month, which I think is reasonable. I’m also looking at it as an investment in that I’ll use it through all 4 years of college and then some.
Really, I’m mostly justifying buying one because MacBooks are so damn sexy.
In other news, handcuffs are fun, I need to find a backpack for school, and I’m thinking about dying my hair a honey blonde. More on that tomorrow.
Damn Rat
August 21, 2007
If you ever see a rat cross the street in front of your car, you might as well turn around and go home because you’re going to have an unusual sort of day.
That’s what happened to me on the way to work this morning, and I’m pretty sure it was a jinx because a lot of weird shit happened today. First the computer at work wouldn’t let my manager switch me from training to server, and in the process of trying to fix it my tickets got all messed up. Then it wouldn’t let her give me a new number and when that finally worked, it wouldn’t recognize the number and we had to reboot the computers for the sixth or seventh time. All the computer rebooting, combined with two cooks who get overwhelmed way too quickly, mean that the kitchen got extremely backed up and food was taking up to thirty minutes to come out. And yet I still got about 17% tips overall, so that part was good.
Then on the way home from work, my car died as I was turning off 288 onto King’s Row. Luckily I was able to idle across the road and onto the side, and there wasn’t any traffic, but still. I just replaced that battery last weekend! I still don’t know what happened because I got my car to start back up after sitting on the side of the road for 15 minutes, and my battery is fine now. I think I may be getting a new car tomorrow though. I found a really good deal on a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero (a 2-door coupe, not a granny car, thanks), so my dad and I are going to go look at it first thing in the morning.
I registered for school last night. My schedule is…
Monday/Wednesday/Friday
8-8:50am Mass Communication & Society
9-9:50am US History to 1865
11-11:50am Stars & the Universe
Tuesday/Thursday
12:30-1:50pm Individuals in Society
3:30-4:20pm Health Psychology
…So not exactly the schedule I wanted, or even some of the classes I wanted, but overall I’m happy with it. I’m actually really looking forward to my astrology class, and my health class. Individuals in Society sounds pretty interesting too. I think I’m just ready for school to start in general.
Officially
June 1, 2007
Well, I’m a college student now. Feels…the same. Except that I have a UNT t-shirt and a green highlighter that I didn’t have before. And $700 less in the bank. But other than that, no big deal.
(I’m taking Intro to Philosophy, if anyone wants to know.)
I Like Office Supplies
May 30, 2007
Well, orientation is Friday, and I start college on Monday. It feels weird to say that but at the same time – no big deal. College seems like the natural next step in my life and I’m ready for it. Mostly.
In other news, the song Rehab by Amy Winehouse makes me want to give a lap dance. Strange effect.
edit: I’m having a [somewhat] minor freak-out as far as money goes. Being unemployed really stresses me out – quitting Burlington was probably stupid, but there’s no turning back now. I can get a new job easily if I do temp work but even that isn’t a sure thing. Why is finding a job so difficult for me? A girl got fired from Burlington and had a new job within days. I absolutely do not want this to be like last summer, when I was unemployed for three months. I know part of it was just me being lazy and not looking hard, but at the same time it seems like I can apply to every place in Denton, and follow up on them, and never even get an interview. I can’t figure it out.
Finally

I got my accpetance letter from UNT today! ![]()
